When you first look at this picture, your mind won’t comprehend it. You may just dismiss it as a rock because the collective human consciousness constrains itself to whatever reality it has created up to a point in time. I myself did not understand the impact of this photo at first. It was just another Mars picture with alot of rocks in it. You see the object thats out of place, but you don’t know what it is or comprehend it. It is outside your understanding of reality and your mind makes it slightly invisible. But it is there … look again. It has taken me 7 years and I’m still absorbing the greater meaning of this photo. I keep returning to it and thinking: What is it? I try to find reasons to why this thing cannot be something created by an extraterrestial being and all those possible reasons are very weak arguments. And so the question is answered – we are not alone as a sentient creature in this strange place we call the Universe.
To me, this is the most important photograph of our times. The message it conveys is no less important than when Copernicus stated that the Earth revolves around the Sun and not the other way around.
I believe that this image is a manufactured mechanism that was most probably manufactured by an alien intelligence. The reason why I say that its mechanical is the inclusion of 90 degree angles (right angles) in the design. People have likened it to a Metronome (metronome). Other people have compared it to an aeroplane tail. I suggest printing the above image out on an A4 page, take a ruler and pencil and draw on the straight edges that you can see. You will soon realise that this object is far from natural.

Sceptics would say this is a crashed earth probe, but it matches no known part from any human space probe. Other sceptics say that there are rocks that look man-made which are created by nature. Here are some examples:
The naturally formed straight edge rocks form in fractal formations, appearing in clusters. The anomaly presented above appears as a standalone anomaly. In fact, no other image from Mars that has been published look even remotely similar.

Our aim is to efficiently use whatever electronic information is available to us to give our opinion on this object. For the purposes of this study we shall examine the images of the object provided by NASA to extract as much meta information as possible and then translate this information into a 3 dimensional graphical representation of the object. This process is hindered by the low quality of NASA images provided. Even so, there is a percentage of electronic information still available no matter how distorted it is. There is a degree of interpretation involved in the translation from 2 dimensional to 3 dimensional image. This is dependent on the artist involved. If you wish to submit your own graphical interpretations of what you perceive the object to be. We used Inkscape and Blender to arrive at our models. It may be possible to algorithmically arrive at a averaged out version of what the object looks like using everyone’s submitted Blender models. - Identify edges of the object algorithmically using GIMP graphic tool
- Trace out edges manually (in Inkscape) using vectors ontop of the image based on interpretation of the image and the edge detected images
- Get various 3D artists to use the images, edge detections and manually traced vector diagrams to develop a 3D model
- If at all possible, use statistical modelling and reporting tools to average out a large number of 3D representations in a common data format

Edge detection refers to the mathematical methods aimed at identifying points in a digital image where the image brightness changes sharply (has discontinuities). What it helps us achieve is a clearer understanding of the details in an image based on mathematical algorithmic processing of the information available in that image. I the case of the Mars Metronome, it helps to identify the irregular prism shape that makes up the upper part of the object. It also gives us visibility of the prongs and vents at the base. Manually tracing polygons on the images
After analyzing the edge detail, I manually traced vectors on both the images. I deliberately left out the tear-drop element at the top of the irregular prism shape because I interpret this to be the top of the prism that has melted/corroded and re-solidified rapidly to for a tear-drop shape. I have ignored the sand build-up on the image set on the right to highlight the distortion effect of the sand.

Estimating the size of this object
The following Cornell Mars Watch website estimates the width of the panoramic view to be 7 meters (Cornell University Mars Watch)
By printing this image on an A4 page and proportioning the measurements to the actual scale, we can estimate that the depth of the object is +- 63cm and the height is +-76cm.
