When you first look at this picture, your mind won’t comprehend it. You may just dismiss it as a rock because the collective human consciousness constrains itself to whatever reality it has created up to a point in time. I myself did not understand the impact of this photo at first. It was just another Mars picture with alot of rocks in it. You see the object thats out of place, but you don’t know what it is or comprehend it. It is outside your understanding of reality and your mind makes it slightly invisible. But it is there … look again. It has taken me 7 years and I’m still absorbing the greater meaning of this photo. I keep returning to it and thinking: What is it? I try to find reasons to why this thing cannot be something created by an extraterrestial being and all those possible reasons are very weak arguments. And so the question is answered – we are not alone as a sentient creature in this strange place we call the Universe.
To me, this is the most important photograph of our times. The message it conveys is no less important than when Copernicus stated that the Earth revolves around the Sun and not the other way around.
My initial article on the Mars Metronome object as created much controversy with approximately 43% of people polled so far agreeing that the Metronome object is artificial. I have discussed my opinion on various science forums. People have many arguments against the artificiality of the Metronome, but when the 10 key observations are assessed as a whole there doesn’t seem to be any counterargument that holds much weight.
So onto the next anomalous finding …
Many people consider the following 2 features (found in images taken by the Curiosity Mars Rover) to resemble rodents scurrying across a rock face. This is mainly because of the shape of the objects and the tail-looking features protruding from one side. The image below is the image that anomaly hunters first used to identify these objects.

The Manned Capsule: Dragon V2
The new SpaceX capsule: Dragon V2
Introducing the latest edition to the SpaceX family, it is the Dragon version 2. This newly designed capsule holds great promise for the future of civilian space flights.
A capsule that can safely accommodate seven astronauts, conveniently dock at a space station, land anywhere on Earth with precise accuracy and is reusable immediately. This is some of the main features of the new capsule Dragon V2. The unveiling took place on Thursday evening, 29 May. The CEO of SpaceX, Elon Musk, was there to do the unveiling and presentation of the new creation himself.
It’s true, the Tazmanian devil’s cousins live on Mars and on Mars they are called dust devils. They are quite similar to tornados on Earth just a little bit bigger. One specific theory theorizes that they are electrified.

An artists representation of the asteroid Chariklo with its rings
Somewhere between Saturn and Uranus there is an asteroid called Chariklo. With some recent investigations, scientists have discovered that Chariklo has rings. An asteroid with rings, that is what they discovered. Previously it was thought that only big planets like Saturn can have rings but it would seem that scientists were wrong. Study leader Felipe Braga-Ribas said: “We weren’t looking for a ring and didn’t think small bodies like Chariklo had them at all, so the discovery – and the amazing amount of detail we saw in the system – came as a complete surprise.”
The first space-to-earth musical collaboration.
This is an amazing achievement. The song is called I.S.S. (Is Somebody Singing). Featuring Wexford Gleeks, Ed Robertson and Chris Hadfield.
So who is Chris Hadfield?
Here are some videos that will give some insight to the life of Chris Hadfield.
Image of Mars taken by the Curiosity rover
If you thought it was amazing to be able to send a piece of paper through a machine and then it will instantly appear on the other side of the world then you’re in for a surprise. What if you can do the same with DNA? Yes, DNA. The structured code that builds live bodies.
An artistic representation of Ceres spewing out water vapour.
Ceres was first classified as an asteroid but upgraded its status to dwarf planet recently. For about 30 years scientists have speculated about whether or not Ceres contains water. Well finally they have their answer.
Ceres is the dwarf planet and largest object in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. When it was first discovered it was only thought to be a massive asteroid. But when scientists discovered that Ceres is shaped like a sphere and that it might have a silicate core and icy exterior its status changed from asteroid to dwarf planet in 2008. Now that scientists have discovered evidence of water on Ceres it is even more planet-like.
Images of before and after the rock
The Mars Rover Opportunity must have thought “at last, after 10 years of hard work I finally get rewarded for my efforts”. This wasn’t the case. In fact, Opportunity had discovered some more work for it to do. What looks like a jelly doughnut was in fact a rock, something which is seen a lot on Mars but this one is unique.
It is always great to have some kind of astronomy application when you are quite the astronomer. It can be either for research or just for your own leisure.
Observation Manager will run on any platform that supports Java 1.4 or higher and it is a logbook for astronomical observations. Any of your observations can be noted and saved for future use. This can be useful if you only get the chance to do stargazing once every few weeks. The catalogues in Observation Manager are already categorized for ease of use.
Xephem is a very complicated application but once you master it you won’t want to use anything else. It is a highly developed astronomy application with a whole lot of data and information available to the user. There is information on just about everything in the solar system.
